BRIEF HISTORICAL REVIEW

The current School of Industrial Engineering was initially created as a University School where only Bachelor Degrees of Industrial Engineering where taught. It was approved by the Real Decreto 2526/1975 from 9th of October of 1975 (BOE 27th of October), being the Rector Prof. Antón Civit Breu and the first Director of the School Prof. Benito Mahedero Balsera.

Initially, the Bachelor Degrees in Industrial Engineering had specialties in Electricity, with intensifications in “Electronics” and in “Power Plants and Lines”, and in Mechanics, with intensification in “Industrial Structures and Installations”. To this end, the Experimental Plan of Studies of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (1972) was adopted, which underwent slight modifications in 1980 and in 1982.

By Resolution 322/92 of 18th of September of 1992 of the Rector of the University of Extremadura, the Center is designed to implant in the academic year 1992/1993 the Master Degree of Industrial Engineering, including all the corresponding organization, management and teaching activities, according to Real Decreto 1050/1992, of 31st of July of 1992 (BOE of 26th of August).

In the academic year 1993/1994 the renewed Bachelor Degrees in Industrial Engineering started, existing now specialties in Electricity, Industrial Electronics and Mechanics. During the academic year 1998/1999 the revised version of the Bachelor Degrees of Industrial Engineering, i.e., Electricity, Industrial Electronics and Mechanics, as well as the Master Degree of Industrial Engineering, were implanted. At the same time, The Master Degree in Industrial Engineering Organization started to be taught. In the academic year 1999/2000 the Master Degrees of Materials Engineering and Electronic Engineering were implanted in the Center.

The change towards the new version of Bachelor and Master Degrees, revised according to the European Higher Education Area (Bologna Process), started in the academic year 2009/2010. Since then, the catalogue of the degrees taught in the Center has evolved to match with the list indicated previously.
