I am pleased to welcome you to our Faculty, approved by the EAEVE (European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education), which means that the skills provided in our center meet the quality criteria set by the association and the Education Committee of the EU. This European certification of quality is a sign of prestige and excellence for our Faculty and University, and their graduates.
The following lines will give you a short overview about the University of Extremadura and the studies in our Faculty. We appreciate your interest; our students enriching our academic community with their experiences and interests.

ABOUT THE FACULTY AND THE UEX
Since 1983, the Veterinary Faculty has been part of the , founded in 1973. It is a Higher Education Institution, with approximately More than 24,000 under-graduate and post-graduate-level students, along with a further 8,000 students who are completing doctoral studies or other courses, more than 600 international students, with 1500 teachers and 800 non-teaching staff; and is built up of seventeen faculties, six university and engineering schools and three joined centres distributed among its two campuses (Badajoz, Cáceres), the University Centre in Merida and the University Centre in Plasencia.The academic offer ot the UEX is extended to more tan 55 degrees (EHEA), 7 double degrees, 32 masters, 10 international masters and degrees, doctorate studies, 220 research groups, masters and Spanish Languaje and culture courses.
The Veterinary Faculty is located in the University Branch Campus of Cáceres (the Capital of one of the two provinces that make up the Autonomous Community of Extremadura).
At approximately 5 km from the centre of the downtown, nearby there are located other Faculties and Schools of the University, that offers safety, a healthy working environment and a balance between work and leisure time.
The Faculty is organized into three main academic departments. It boasts first-rate services and infrastructures for instructional support.
Each department and section (Animal Medicine, Animal Health and Animal Production & Food Sciences) has its own scientific structures. Other available structures for teaching and learning include a Central University Library, in the Campus branch, a Teaching Veterinary Clinical Hospital (HCV) and a Teaching Farm.
The faculty has six large classrooms with advanced media support, 2 computer rooms and 3 small additional classes with 5-9 computers each, and one small library and study room. Some educational and administrative facilities are located off campus.
LIVING IN CÁCERES.
How to arrive:
If you travel to Extremadura by plane, you will land at Badajoz airport (Cáceres to 90km), the only airport in the region. The airport is in the municipality of Talavera la Real, There are regular flights from Badajoz airport to Madrid and Barcelona, and to other cities at certain times of the year. The airport has a shopping area, car rental facilities, free 24-hour parking and a taxi rank.
If you prefer to travel by train, the Spanish Railway Medium Distance network offers railway services in Extremadura, linking this autonomous community with Andalucia, Castilla - La Mancha and Madrid. Spanish Renfe trains run from Merida to Seville; from Badajoz, Caceres and Madrid; another railway line runs through Badajoz, Merida, Ciudad Real, Madrid, and another connects Zafra with Huelva.
By road you have more options. Extremadura has a highly efficient road network almost 9,000 km long. Extremadura is crossed by two major routes: the A-5 motorway and the A-66 motorway. The A-5 (the former NV) crosses the region from east to west and connects Madrid and Lisbon, passing through Navalmoral de la Mata, Trujillo, Miajadas, Mérida and Badajoz. The A-66 runs from north to south. It starts off in Gijon and ends in Seville, passing through the provinces of Caceres and Badajoz. The Extremadura part of the A-66 passes through Plasencia, Caceres, Merida, Almendralejo, Villafranca de los Barros and close to Zafra. A large part of the A-66 was built along the former N-630, some of whose sections remain in use.

ECTS Academic program
The degree in Biochemistry is firmly established in the countries of the European Union degree. At the University of Extremadura begins teaching in the course 2014/15, replaces the Degree in Biochemistry (2nd cycle degree extinct) that was implemented at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 1999, there is thus more than a decade experience in training Biochemicals.
The main objective of this degree is to train professionals who have the conceptual tools and techniques necessary to understand the relationship between molecular mechanisms and biological functions, being able to apply this knowledge in many fields such as industry (pharmaceutical, veterinary , food, or chemical), diagnosis and clinical analysis or sectors related to the environment.
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has UEx human resources, materials and services necessary (classrooms, laboratories, libraries, numerous agreements with companies for internships, etc.) to ensure quality in the delivery of all training activities planned Degree in Biochemistry.
The Master in Science and Technology of Meat consists of 60 credits (one academic year) which are distributed in 10 subjects of 6 credits each. The materials are consistent with the objectives of the Master, focusing on safety and quality of meat and meat products. In the Master aspects related to obtaining and processing of meat, its composition and nutritional value, sensory evaluation, physical-chemical and microbiological analysis, legislation of meat and meat products, the assessment and management of risks and include quality assurance. It is also compulsory both conducting Placement in meat companies such as conducting a research Master's Thesis.
The Quality Committee for the degrees and MSc of the Veterinary Faculty are in charge of the coordination of the programmes for different subjects. These committees also assess teaching quality and supervise, modify and analyse all aspects related to the teaching activity in the Faculty. The Committee meet at least once every trimester/term.
The Veterinary Faculty in Cáceres aims to take care of its students, staff and the environment for the development of the city, the region and the country.
